What is the Stock Market?

Are you wondering what the stock market is and how you can profit from it? So are many others, here is a quick overview.

The stock market is where stocks are traded. In case you don t know some companies allow you to buy part of the company and these pieces of the company are called shares of stock.

The stock market takes place on various stock exchanges the two larges exchanges are the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and the National Association of Securities Dealers Automated Quotation System (NASDAQ).

Typically stocks used to be traded at one general location called Wall Street which is in New York City in the United States, but now anyone with a computer can easily buy stocks and now computers do a lot of the work involved in keeping track of who owns what stock and how much the own.

Speed Up Your Computer's Performance with these Tricks

Speed Up Your Computer's Performance with these Tricks

by Bill Healey

The number one computer question heard by computer experts and people in IT departments is, "There is something wrong with my computer. Do I need a new one?" There really is no clear answer to that answer since there are so many factors. It also depends on what it is you want to do, but chances are good you're won't be shopping for a new computer anytime soon.
The most obvious way to improve your computer's overall speed is to replace the CPU with a newer and faster one. This is also the most expensive. Instead, start by making sure that your current hardware is efficient. Windows run computers usually have at least twenty programs running at any time and most of these programs are invisible to an average user, making it kind of difficult to know exactly what your computer is running most of the time.

While there is not an extensive list of potential solutions to all of your computer problems, this quick list can provide you with a few ways to speed up your computer.

  • Stop programs from starting - A quick and easy way to speed up your computer is to stop unnecessary programs from starting themselves up when you first turn your system on. The unwanted and unneeded programs not only slow down the start of Windows, they also continue to it slow down since they use valuable system resources which can be better used somewhere else.
  • Hard disk scan - Is there anything more annoying than when your computer crashes? What about when it won't shut it down properly? These types of hard drive problems can cause serious damage to those important system files which makes your computer run properly. Windows come installed with a tool that can help. It's the scandisk option which automatically detects and fixes a good portion of the damage and in doing so improves your system's performance in the process.
  • Virus scan - A Trojan or worm virus can cause havoc on your computer and potentially your personal finances through identity theft. That is why antivirus software is must-have for all computer owners. Not only that but detecting and cleaning viruses is also a great way to improve your system's overall speed and performance. There are many antivirus programs to choose from, such as McAfee Virus Scan, Norton Antivirus, or Avira's AntiVir PersonalEdition Premium.
  • Hard drive defragment - Data and information gets scattered all over your hard driver over time. There is no way of avoiding it so here is a way to fix it. Take the time to defrag your computers hard drive. It will put your data back into sequential order, making it easier for Windows to access it. You'll notice the performance of your computer will improve greatly once it has completed a successful defragment.
  • Spyware and adware - Spyware is often time confused with computer viruses. While they are not the best things for you to have on your computer, they are not nearly as bad or damaging for it. Spyware allows companies and others to monitor what websites you visit. There are even spyware applications that allow someone to access your computer from a different and remote location. It displays advertisements, using system resources which in turn slow down your computer. Detecting and removing spyware can greatly quicken your system's performance.
  • Get rid of unused programs - Remove those unnecessary programs that you never use anymore like Doom or the files for a printer that you got rid of two years ago. You will be pleasantly surprised with the amount of space you can free up and in turn speed up your system's performance. Now, when I say getting rid of, I mean you need to uninstall the programs from your system completely and not just delete it from your desktop. That won't do anything for you.
  • Adjust the visual effects - Windows XP comes available with a number of different and interesting visual effects like animated windows or fading menus. These effects look neat but can slow down your computer. Choose to let Windows decide what works best for you, or choose to adjust it yourself for the best appearance or performance.
